#BritLit24: Jam Yesterday, Tomorrow and Today: New Adventures in Subjectivity
Now in its 38th year, the British Council Literature Seminar offers a unique opportunity for literature professionals, academics, students, and literature enthusiasts to engage directly with UK writers.
We are thrilled to present a seminar celebrating five of Granta magazine's Best of Young British Novelists 2023 this year.
Renowned writer and jury member Helen Oyeyemi will chair the event. It is a great honour that Sarah Bernstein, Eliza Clark, Camilla Grudova, K Patrick, and Eley Williams have accepted our invitation to participate in the seminar.
Two sessions during the seminar will be livestreamed:
Panel Discussion 1: ‘Microscope’ chaired by Helen Oyeyemi on Friday, 15 November, at 11:30 CET, with Sarah Bernstein, Eliza Clark, Camilla Grudova, K Patrick, and Eley Williams
On beginnings. Starting out as fiction writers: what sparked the desire to begin writing, what kinds of inspiration took hold, and what cultural influences fuel your creativity? In the act of writing itself: how, where, and in what manner do you establish perspective to start a piece?
Panel Discussion 2: ‘Telescope’ chaired by Helen Oyeyemi on Saturday, 16 November, at 11:30 CET, with Sarah Bernstein, Eliza Clark, Camilla Grudova, K Patrick, and Eley Williams
On keeping momentum. How does one sustain the early energy as a young novelist? How do you navigate the transition from personal experiences to the impersonal, crafting narratives that may not draw from the familiar?
The other sessions in the Seminar will be recorded, and the link will be shared via email with those who have registered for the livestream event.
